This depends a lot on what the desired result is. If you want a terracotta pot or a dishwasher safe bowl. In my studio, I fire for bisque 960°C (1760°F) and between 1220°C and 1250°C (2228°F to 2282°F).
This is to because I mostly fire dish-ware, that needs to be food-safe and sturdy. The higher the firing, the less porous it is (if your clay body allows it).
However, for some art pieces, vases, works, I choose to purchase low-temperature clay and fire lower, since it is a lot more eco-friendly, thus between 1150°C to 1200°C (2102°F to 2192°F).

Yes, absolutely.
If you have purchased from me a cup/plate/bowl/mug, etc., it is food- microwave- dishwasher- safe.
For special artworks such as vases, wall decorations, etc. most often they are food-safe but if you have a special request/question feel free to email me with for details.
p.s. if something is not food-safe, it does not mean it is toxic to touch or be around it. The term refers to the capability of your ceramic vessel to not develop bacteria, due to food and to be able to dry properly.
